Officials at state-run Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, New York, announced moments ago they will re-open the resort after the scheduled closing date, April 10.
According to Whiteface.com, “This has been an awesome season at Whiteface! We will remain open daily until Sunday, April 10th. Based on snow conditions and popular demand we will reopen the mountain for another weekend of fun Friday, April 15th, Saturday, April 16th, and Sunday, April 17th.”
Based on my reconnaissance mission at Whiteface yesterday, this is great news. I wasn’t going to blog about it yet again in fear I’ve become a ski bore, but today’s news gives me an excuse to discuss how incredibly great skiing is at Whiteface these days. Yesterday was another 42 and blue day at the hometown mountain. Conditions were corn snow, warm sun, and exhausting fun, consistently delivered across the mountain.
If you zoom in on today’s photo of yet another view from the deck at Whiteface mid-station, you will note the large bumps covering the terrain. The entire mountain was covered in large, soft, moguls by midday; a workout for sure, but great fun as well.
Although it is raining out now and I am enjoying a rest day, my fingers are crossed in hopes of conditions permitting a longer lift-served season at Whiteface!
