Lake Placid Skier Andrew Weibrecht On The Cover Of Sports Illustrated!

Today’s blog headline is the kind of news that makes every parent who has stood in the cold watching their ski racer face the gates, smile in delight. Lake Placid native Andrew Weibrecht has made the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated, where he joins fellow alpine skiing Olympic medalists Lindsey Vonn, Bode Miller and Julia Mancuso. Congratulations to the Weibrecht family and all those involved in Andrew’s success. As we know it takes a Village….even a small one like Lake Placid.
Weibrecht is the first Lake Placid resident to win an Olympic medal since 1972, when Pete Sears took silver as a goalie on the U.S. hockey team.
I like the irony in the way gold medalist Bode Miller looks like the wise, old mentor in the Sports Illustrated cover photo. The US Olympic Alpine Team has made a great showing thus far at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
