He’s Back!!!

One of the greatest athletes of our century, Lance Armstong, seven time winner of the Tour de France, has announced his return to professional cycling. I am happy to pass on the best cycling news in a long time.

Yeah, huge news, but there’s a lot that needs to happen for him to actually compete. I think it is partially a ploy to assist his former mates on Astana since they’ve been banned from the big tours due to doping. It may also be an effort on Lance’s part to prove himself clean one more time. This time he will need to have 6-months of prior testing and a biological passport.

The odds are against another Tour win, but his presence in the peleton surely will cause some ruckus (pain).

I know, I know, but it is just great to have him back in the sport. He brought so much buzz and excitement to road racing that was missed after his retirement. At least it will be interesting to see….will he put together a team of “fallens” like Landis and Tyler Hamilton whose suspensions will run out. Of course, first he’ll have to haul Landis out of some Central PA Legion bar and clean him up….

Landis, I’m afraid might be done, but like a Phoenix out of the ashes, Tyler just won the USPRO Championship. At age 37.

Lance’s official press release dedicates his return completely to the fight against cancer. I can get behind that. You are so right that this will help increase the buzz in cycling – and that is always a good thing.
