Last night’s Banff Mountain Film Festival in Lake Placid topped off an outstanding Adirondack Mountain weekend. The films were a huge hit with the sold-out crowd at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. It was a wonderful experience to be in the company of so many other people who share a passion for mountain culture and adventure. One of the films featured a young man who summarized very well why some people love living outdoors. He said, “It just feels right.”
My favorite film was “Wings on Your Feet” which was a beautifully produced film about telemark skiing and “two charming characters and untiring powder hounds.” The tele-skiers looked like graceful dancers performing before breathtaking mountain backdrops. Ski conditions here in the Adirondacks are great, by the way. I had two spectacular days of skiing at Mount Van Hoevenberg, where the trails are in perfect shape. The word on Adirondack backcountry skiing is somewhat surprising - great! A friend skied Mt. Marcy yesterday and said it was ‘epic.’ The trail to Avalanche Pass is beautiful too. This kind of information is bitter sweet for me since I’d rather be on skis in the backcountry today, but the business of real estate calls!
